Busy Friday

An early start to the day saw us head into downtown for 9am to catch the free shuttle bus over to North Vancouver’s Capilano Suspension Bridge.

On our way the bus drove through Downtown Vancouver giving us another perspective of this ever growing city, while also passing through Stanley park which, as our driver states “has lots of trees”. In fact Stanley Park is home to 1,001-acres of rainforest which also connects Vancouver with North Vancouver via the Lions Gate bridge, a 1,517.3m long bridge that resembles San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Arriving at the Suspension bridge, paying our fee and making our way through the gate we was greeted with plenty of informational boards about BC’s aboriginal natives.

The suspension bridge itself spreads out 140 m across the Lynn Canyon. The park also offers a tree top walk and daring cliff edge walk, both of which are included in your general admission. Although a little pricey it does offer some spectacular views with lots of informational points regarding what importance trees and rainforests play in the eco system of our world. Information for people who are not already well informed about the climate change situation could easily lead them to changing certain aspects of their day to day life to help ease the case.

The park itself takes around 2hours to walk around and offers plenty of photo opportunities, if you also arrive by the shuttle bus you can also easily take it back into downtown after your visit, as we did. Once back in downtown we wandered in and out of a view shops before settling for an ice cream. Earlier in the week we had spotted a complete 0% dairy ice cream parlour called ‘Nice Vice’ in the trendy neighbourhood of Yaletown. With its clean simple interior and plenty full of unique flavours I settled for a charcoal infused earl grey waffle cone while Filip treated himself to a scoop of banana fudge and a scoop of orange cardamom in a tub. Walking now with our ice cream we stopped by Vancouver’s contemporary art gallery before continuing towards Granville Island where we had booked in to do a 2hour paddle board session. The art gallery itself offered simple but thought provoking art including poems spread around on the walls which mostly related to modernistic sculptures which they surrounded.

Yaletown’s Nice Vice

Paddle boarding around False creek in the middle of the city offers a number of water view points of the Downtown core & Olympic Village, the busy boat traffic keeps you alert of both the oncoming traffic as well as the waves created by them as you balance yourself on top of your board. Luckily we were paddle boarding with our friend Mackenzie who is literally prepared for every possible moment, meaning she had a water proof watch so we could ensure we don’t go over our two hour time slot. The wind was on our side heading out into the Creek but on the way back we battled against it with success to reach the harbour with a little over 5 minutes to spare.

From here we met up with Nicole and headed to West 4th in Kitsilano where we dined in another of my favourite restaurants ‘Burgoo’ which offers comfort styled food in a equally comfort relaxed atmosphere. After dinner we all headed out to a small gathering which our friend Rachel was hosting in her 18th floor Downtown apartment, the views would make anyone jealous and created the perfect atmosphere for the rest of the evening.
